We were delighted to head north to Inverness last week for our Zero-Carbon Public Transport Summit.
The event brought together our members, local politicians and transport operators to discuss how Scotland can take action on climate and cut emissions from its public transport network.
Take a look at what the afternoon entailed below.
Afull summary of the event, including photos and speaker presentations, can be found on the website.
For our opening session, we were pleased to hear a presentation from Transport Scotland on the Government's commitments to public transport decarbonisation.
We then welcomed a political panel with representatives from the Highland Council, who gave short speeches prior to a Q&A segment.
Following the Q&A, we headed into separate roundtable discussions on bus, rail and ferry decarbonisation.
The rail roundtable heard presentations from ScotRail, Scotland's Railway and HITRANS; the bus roundtable from CPT Scotland, Stagecoach and Moray Council; and the ferry roundtable from CMAL and EMEC.
The speakers subsequently welcomed questions and discussions around the challenges and opportunities for decarbonisation followed.
To close, director Colin Howden highlighted the need for a reset in spending priorities to achieve a zero-carbon public transport network in Scotland. He noted that it is critical that the Government does not repeat old patterns of disproportionate spending on roads at the expense of sustainable travel, citing the disparity between funding assigned to the A9 and that assigned to the Highland Main Line.
Thank you to our speakers and all who joined us in the Highlands - we look forward to our next gathering!
